Your 2024 Resilient Flight Plan

As we embark on our 2024 journey, think of it as preparing for an exhilarating flight. In aviation, a successful journey isn’t just about the takeoff into new heights; it’s equally about what you leave on the ground.

This year, let’s identify resilient habits and behaviors to “take flight” with – those that will elevate us to new altitudes – and those to “leave at the terminal” – the ones holding us back from soaring. Fasten your seat belts; it’s time to thrive!

The Takeoffs: Elevating Our Brilliance
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life and lose sight of the bigger picture. But what if you took a step back and ascended to new heights using the following recommendations?

1. Mindful Exploration

  • Embrace mindfulness like a pilot checks their instruments – essential for a safe and successful journey. Let mindful practices guide your daily route, ensuring you fly through your day with clarity and focus.

  • This is more than just being present at the moment; it’s about actively seeking new opportunities and experiences.

  • Tap into creativity and intuition to envision a future that is full of potential.

2. Skillful Navigation

  • Continuous learning is your navigation system. Chart new courses and explore uncharted territories of knowledge, keeping your journey exciting and your career trajectory high and far-reaching.

  • Determine which skills you will upgrade. I realized that after returning to school in my 50s I still need to sharpen my skills. I discovered www.Brilliant.org and have enrolled in a course on data analysis. I am already loving it since I can set the pace for how fast I want to fly and how high.

3. Financial Aerodynamics

  • Streamline your finances for a smooth ascent. Just as aerodynamics are crucial for an efficient flight, financial planning ensures your journey is free from turbulence and set for the long haul.

  • One of my favorite books – which I am listening to for the third time – is Richer, Wiser, Happier, by William Green. One of the gems of wisdom in this book is that “Meaningful investing comes in moving in the opposite direction. Defer gratification and prefer prioritizing long-term outcomes.”

4. Health and Wellness

  • Prioritize your well-being, similar to the safety instructions before a flight. Regular exercise and a balanced diet are your oxygen masks; secure them first to ensure a healthy and high-flying year.

  • Once you secure them, serve someone else who can do nothing for you. In the words of Mother Teresa, “Value will never be established by how many one serviced, but by how well one serves many.”

The Landings: Letting Go to Stay Grounded
Now that we have reviewed the takeoffs you will be implementing in 2024, let’s dive into the landings, otherwise known as the baggage you will be leaving behind to ensure your success.

1. Procrastination

  • Leave procrastination at the departure gate. Postponing tasks weighs down your itinerary. Shed this excess baggage to ascend swiftly toward your goals.

2. Negativity

  • Throw away negative self-talk like unnecessary cargo. Lighten your load to gain altitude, replacing it with the fuel of positivity to reach new heights.

3. Digital Detox

  • Get rid of excessive screen time. Just as a plane must land for maintenance, regularly disconnect from your digital devices to maintain your mental and emotional well-being. What would it be like to schedule a regular digital vacation? This might just be the lift you need to continue to thrive.

4. Junk Food

  • Leave unhealthy eating habits in the past. Choose nourishing provisions for your journey, ensuring your body and mind remain fit for the adventures ahead.

  • I constantly struggle to eat right. When I sense the plane of my life is veering off course, I take an inventory of what I’ve been eating. Most of the time, I simply shift to what I know is right for me. What about you?

As you set off into 2024, let’s be mindful of our resilient flight plan. The habits you take off with will ensure that you are ready and steady as you reach your journey’s cruising altitude.

Furthermore, you can leave behind hurry and worry to ensure you’re no longer weighed down. It’s time to soar into thriving in your health, learning, and brilliant living – the sky’s the limit!
