Brilliant Presence Rubs Off!

Have you ever noticed someone with Brilliant Presence? They walk into a room and immediately light up the atmosphere. This doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when you discover that brilliance is 90% understanding how to “be” and 10% knowing what to do.

Brilliant Presence is magnetic confidence that is released into the space around you. People can sense that there is something different about you. Why is that? The body is an electromagnetic force field that attracts like-minded objects. The energy that vibrates from your innermost being fills the atmosphere, and others can feel it. Did you know that within your body there is enough atomic energy to build any one of the world’s greatest cities many times over?

Brilliant Presence is demonstrated through emotional commitment to a cause, an individual or an organization. Individuals who possess Brilliant Presence have a way of connecting with others, thus attracting the resources, situations and opportunities that enable them to accomplish tasks easier and faster. Some would say these individuals have “it” – a special something that gives them an extra edge over those who are average.

You have “it.” I know you have that special something, even if you don’t see it in yourself. You’ve played small long enough. It’s time to walk into the room and own it. It’s time to take the stage and own it. It’s time to get that promotion and do it. It’s time to stand up and be it. Why? Because Simon says so!

Transformation is One Inch from Your Nose

One of the greatest phenomena in the world is the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. According to the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre, this cocooning process is an outer wrapping made by the caterpillar using silk produced by glands in the caterpillar’s mouth. Simply put, the caterpillar lives in what it spits out of its’ mouth. Just chew on that thought for a moment!

Your mouth is the door that creates your future. Your words are the keys that unlock it. I have examined the lives of successful people through personal conversations and reading biographies. I have discovered that there is one common denominator among many of them, and I call it linguistic brilliance.

They understand that words are seeds sown into the soil of the heart. Each day their thinking and behavior nurtures the seeds that have been sown. Mary Kay Ash (Mary Kay, Inc.) said it best “If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can’t, you’re right.”

I have discovered within the last twenty years that you will rise or fall based on the words that proceed from your mouth. Words are like magnets that pull situations, circumstances, and opportunities towards you. Instead of saying that you are experiencing a recession, perhaps you might say that you are expecting incredible possessions. This goes beyond physical possessions; I am talking about possessing your destiny, possessing your happiness, possessing your purpose, possessing a brilliant state of mind.

Perhaps your job has been repossessed. You showed up day after day, month after month, and year after year and gave your very best to a company, a person, an industry. Now, your security blanket has been taken from you when you least expected. I invite you to stop speaking about what happened and start speaking about what you expect, because the future is created in the present. When you arrive into the future you call it today, and everything that you said yesterday is ready to welcome you.

Put a Spring in Your Step!

Spring is the season of new beginnings. I am so glad that the weather is finally warming up. During this new season it’s a great time to put a spring in your step and be the difference that makes the difference. Enough whining and complaining about whatever and shift your thinking.

Here are some tips for you to implement:

Give away a minimum of 10% of your time, talent, or resources to a non-profit organization. Make sure people of integrity are running the organization.

Read the top ten business books of the year. These are great conversation starters and will expand your world view. Read out loud for 20 minutes per day. It will expand your vocabulary and increase your verbal self-confidence. You will get used to speaking up for yourself and speaking in favor of or against the pressing issues of the day.

Kick-it-up-a-notch! In whatever you find yourself doing…go the extra mile and give something extra. This will always put you ahead of the crowd that is paid to do just an okay job. Remember, the future is created in the present.

Associate with winners. Invest in positive relationships. Tell the energy vampires who party too hard, complain about being broke and are holding you back to take a hike. Refuse to be their dumping ground any longer. You have better things to do.

This is your moment and your time and step up, step out and step into your brilliant future.

Leverage Diversity Brilliance!

Is Diversity really necessary? Diversity is more than just hiring people of different ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, and social conditions. It’s more than saying you have friends who are different than you are. Just because you attend a couple of diversity classes and check off “diversity” on your performance development plan, doesn’t mean you “get it.”

I am concerned that many leaders perceive diversity as some twenty-first century reincarnation of affirmative action and push it to the back burner. Alvelyn Sanders of the Atlanta Tribune points out that hiring employees who are African American, Hispanic, or Asian, or hiring someone who is Muslim, in and of itself, does not create a diverse workforce.

Diversity means any quality that differentiates people or groups. Senior executives and managers who “get it” understand that leveraging diversity goes way beyond having a multicultural workforce. They value the brilliance of multicultural suppliers, customers, and even shareholders. They appreciate people who “push back” and ask the tough questions.

They celebrate people who express opinions that are different from the masses because their worldview is filtered through unique cultural, social, and educational lenses. Leaders who invite this type of feedback will always have a 360-degree perspective on any given issue and will seek to do business with diverse suppliers and to target new market segments.

Is it really that important to leverage the diversity that exists all around you? According to Steven Reinemund, former Chairman & CEO of PepsiCo, “Diversity management is the difference between staying relevant and vital and growing, or becoming stagnant, easily replaced and quickly left behind.” And consider this: The Corporate Leadership Council recently surveyed 50,000 employees from 59 organizations in 10 industries and 27 countries on the subject of employee engagement. The results revealed that the number one characteristic that drives employees’ discretionary effort is leadership’s commitment to diversity.

I invite you to be a life-long learner and open your eyes to the changing world around you. If everyone in your circle looks like you, do you really have a grasp on diversity or will you keep your blinders on? I am just asking the question. Choose to be a participator instead of a spectator. Brilliance is all around you – leverage it!

Transform Your World From the Inside Out!

Have you ever wondered how a caterpillar becomes a pupae and eventually becomes a beautiful butterfly? Did you know when this transformation begins the caterpillar seeks a place to pupate? Many caterpillars use the silk of the cocoon to fasten themselves to a plant. The pupae are astutely camouflaged by the cocoon’s form and color, which protects them during this vulnerable stage. Inside the cocoon the metamorphosis takes place.

Now here’s the incredible thing. When the metamorphosis process is completed, the butterfly has the ingenuity to break the cocoon by pulling itself out and immediately expanding its wings by forcefully pumping blood into the veins of its wings. As the wings adjust to this process, the butterfly pumps the blood back out of its wing veins because it is now ready to take flight.

How many times have you wanted to abort the process of becoming a brilliant butterfly that would make a difference in the world?

As you reflect on each of these areas, where are you in the metamorphosis process? Are you embracing a fundamental shift in thinking? Are you looking for performance-enhancing steroids to accelerate your worldly results? When it’s time to break free of what is holding you back, you will know it and so will everyone else who has been assigned to aid you in soaring.

In the cocoon you are invited to examine your inside world by shedding the old skin of self-limiting belief systems, incongruent behavior patterns, and sabotaging language that negates your destiny. When you understand that the transformation process is an inside job you’ll gladly embrace every trial, challenge, problem and issue as an opportunity to grow and emerge from the cocoon. Are you ready to have the greatest year of your life? If so, the attention you give to your internal transformation process will ultimately determine how high you will soar.
